Post #4- Just Go for it

My email to Mr. Hershey is still waiting for a response, so my project right now is at a standstill.  So instead of dragging on and on about how I just did not do anything further I'll just talk about what is going in my life right now.  The other night I had a basketball game at Mumford.  We played Cass Tech in a tournament that is held every year, the Derrick Coleman tournament.  The games were running about two and a half hours behind, so we were supposed to play at 6 but didn't start until close to 8:30.  Did I mention we got there at 4:30 to see a Chicago team play, because we will be playing them in Chicago before Christmas.  So that was a pretty long night, but at least Mumford did a really nice job with the tournament, especially the Dj that they hired.  When we finally got to play it was a good game, we ended up winning by I think 15 points; and recieved a trophy, probably the biggest trophy we have gotten before.  It was a pretty cool experience and I'm glad I got to be a part of it.  I hope my 20 Time experience will also be a success!

Sadly this week hasn't been that productive.  I was able to send Katie Duncan my email, but I am waiting for a response to that.  I was very busy with volleyball ending, we made it to the quarterfinals but sadly lost to Bedford. Immediately after volleyball ended I was thrown in basketball season, which had already begun.  I am pretty excited for this season, I was able to make varsity but I might have to go down to jv depending on how their team does.  I am most excited to be able to play with Cece Rice, we have become pretty close friends, she's a senior so this is her last season at south, before she goes to play at Illinois.  She's an amazing athlete so practice with someone as talented as her, and a couple of others, is a pretty cool experience.  As you can see sports really mean a lot to me, I rarely go a day without doing something active.  I just feel so much better is I'm able to go to practice or on a run.  My passion for athletics is why I am so interested in Nike.  In my opinion they make the best sportswear and I personally wear it I'd say on a daily.  I want to always be around something that I have a lot of heart for, so that's why my heart is chasing after my dream of working for Nike.  I know even if I do not succeed now if I enjoy the experience and am still interested later in life, I will definitely go for my dreams again.  Another thing I absolutely love about Nike is they chose great athletes to represent their company.  For example Gabby Douglas, an Olympian, has a contract with Nike.  From what I can tell, she seems like such a nice and genuine person, along with a phenomenal athlete.  The experiences that would come from Nike would be endless, maybe later in life, but endless which excites me for this project.  I do not know how far I will be able to run with this idea considering I am only 15, but I will take anything I can get.  I am anxious for a response to my email, I can't wait to see where it takes me in my project.

This project is seeming to be a lot more difficult than expected.  I really need to learn how to prioritize my time so I am able to set aside more time for 20 Time.  With volleyball playoff and school I wasn't able to accomplish much this week which is kinda upsetting to me; because I am so eager to begin.  Today I am going to draft my email for Tim Hershey and ask if he will be my mentor for this project.  Also if he would be able to help me in the process of working with Nike to get a design into production.  Working for Nike is my dream job so I am open to anything or any advice Mr. Hershey or others at Nike would be able to offer me. I know buyers are able to design their own shoes through Nikeid, but thinking about designing a pair of shoes or maybe a shirt and having others buy them either in the store or online gets me really excited to see where this project will take me.  I feel like even if I do fail I will learn a lot, which could be beneficial if I still want to strive to work for Nike one day.  Personally I believe failing is the first step to succeeding.  It is very rare that one can be successful without failing before they got to where they wanted to be.  And I know I'm a little confused as of know and how I should go at this project but before you learn something new you must overcome that state of confusion.  I am very eager to see where this project leads me, and how I will handle everything that is thrown at me.

For my 20 Time Project I am going to chase after my dream of one day working for Nike.  I have been dreaming of living in Oregon one day and driving to work at Nike headquarters for about a year.  Sports are my outlet in life, I love everything about them.  The hard work, the wins and even the losses.  I never want to give up the feeling I get from being around something I love.  I will be talking with Tim Hershey, the general manager of retail sales, for my project.  I hope to accomplish a lot but the main thing I am shooting for is to have one of my very own designs to be put into production.  If I am able to make this happen I'd hope it would open doors for Nike to possibly sponsor Grosse Pointe South and maybe even have my design be the spirit wear for the school.  I am very passionate about sports and everything to do with them, I know I will work hard to try to accomplish this goal, just like I would work hard at practice.   I can't wait to continue to work on my project.
